Wisconsin action & the Midwest Rail Initiative

The state rail blue ribbon commission is making steady progress towards formal endorsement of the Midwest Rail Initiative and its implementation in Wisconsin. The first several months have been educational in nature to bring the wide diversity of membership to a detailed understanding of just what rail passenger service and this proposal contain as future benefits for Wisconsin.

The level of questions directed at presenters is becoming detailed and in August the group began to discuss the funding mechanisms. The WISDOT staff had surveyed all other states and was able to outline the options available. I believe the Interim Report will be favorable to the implementation of the Midwest Rail Initiative and will endorse concerted effort to get our Congressional delegation to take a leading role. I would urge all WISARP members to keep communicating with their state legislators and members of Congress to urge a high profile and swift action for this effort.
